Reactivating Flip 3D – Windows Vista

The new Flip 3D function makes toggling between open windows fast. But the icon to activate it in the quick start bar has disappeared. You want to restore it.

The icon for calling up Flip 3D can be restored with a ‘rundll’ link. First make sure that the taskbar is not locked by right-clicking on an empty space and removing the check-mark for the ‘Lock taskbar’ command in the context menu. Right clicking on the Quick Start bar opens a context menu. Select ‘Open Folder’ and ‘File->New->Link’ in the dialog. Enter the command ‘rundll32 dwmapi 3105’ as the target and click ‘Next’.

Define the ‘Flip 3D’ as the name and click ‘Finish’. The link is immediately available again. You can also use the same command to create a link on the desktop or to bind the request to the center mouse button if you have installed a mouse driver that allows a self-programmed key configuration.

UDP

UDP stands for User Dataram Protocol specified in RFC 768. It is an unreliable service where delivery and duplicate protocol are not guaranteed. UDP allows connectionless service even at transport layer. UDP sits at the top of IP. Because it is connectionless, UDP has very little to do. The UDP header includes source port, destination port length and checksum field. The checksum field is optional. If it is not used, it is set to zero. Thus if no checksum calculation is performed by UDP, then no check is made on user data.

PowerShot Performance

Canon PowerShot G7

The Cannon PowerShot G7 – big brother to the G6 – is a smart-looking camera, with a tough matte-black exterior made of metal and plastic. It’s lighter in weight and flaunts an array of upgrades to its predecessor. Some of them being; the Digic III processor, a wondrous 2 cm macro focus, a 10 MP 1/1.8-inch CCD, x optical zoom lens and optical image stabilization. Plus, the G7 is crowned with an ISO dial while the ISO lets you choose from a range of 80-16000 for low-light conditions.

Although the G7 is a performer, it has its downsides, such as its price. At a whopping $600, why wouldn’t someone buy an SLR camera as opposed to getting restricted to a digital one? Secondly, the G7 surprisingly doesn’t support RAW image format nor an optical zoom for the A/V shooting mode. If one has a thing for the user-friendly interface of digital cameras, then it’s better to opt for a mega zoom camera. All-in-all, there’s no doubt that the G7 performs well, but it is worth the buck, our answer is, ‘no’!

For: Commendable macro focus, presence of ISO dial and hot show support.

Against: Overpriced, no support for RAW-image format.

DNS

DNS stands for Domain Name System. Instead of remembering the numerical based address, to human language-based names can be used. Example www.yahoo.com. This name is called as domain name. Since the network can understand only IP address, DNS provides the service of translating a host name to the corresponding IP address. Each domain name is consisting of a sequence of meaningful words separated by a period. The first of these is leaf node and the subsequent ones are the successive parent nodes up till the root.

Surprisingly Good

Corsair Flash Voyager – 4 GB

I thought that the SanDisk Extreme Ducati Edition is the clear winner of all the flash drives, but unexpectedly the Corsair Flash Voyageur was able to beat the earlier easily with its top notch performance. The performance scores revealed that this drive has the fastest real world and synthetic read scores in its category. The flash drive is superbly built using rubber, thus making it resistant to shock and water. But wait, the drive has some disadvantages – there is no cap retention, so you can lose the cap easily and the rubber body attracts dirt and lint quickly. It can be used vastly for storing media, and you can fill the entire drive in just 8 minutes. A USB extension and a neck strap cable are bundled. Data encryption software comes pre-loaded. Priced at a mere Rs. 975, the cost works around to about Rs. 250 per GB. The drive also carries a staggering 10 ear lifetime warranty.

Specs:
Capacity: 4GB; Dimenions(WxHxD): 24x75x12 mm; Weight: 15 g; USB: 2.0 Hi-Speed

Verdict: Great quick storage and transfers between PCs – this drive is quite cheap and rugged for its performance.

For: Fast Transfers, 10 year warranty.

Against: Tough keeping it clean.

NetApp

NetApp claims its storage solutions require less storage per usable TB, reducing the number of hard disk drives and enclosures required. These benefits directly impact power, cooling, and space metrics, which ultimately contribute to a better environment. NetApp systems require half as many rack units per usable TB compared to the industry, leading to space savings. Its systems consume 109 VA of power per usable TB and dissipate 368 BTU U/hr of heat per usable TB. NetApp says it delivers 50 percent more storage efficiency compared to the industry.

SMTP

SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. It is a simple ASCII protocol. This protocol establishes the TCP connection to port, act as client, and waits for the receiving machine operating as the server to talk first. The server starts by sending a line of text giving its identity and telling whether is prepared to receive mail. If it is not, the client releases the connection and tries again later. If the server is willing to accept email, the client announces whom the email is coming from and whom the message is returned to. If such a recipient exist the server gives the client the go ahead to send the message and the server acknowledge it. No checksum are needed because TCP provides a reliable byte stream.
